School Programs
Our school programs connect students to meaningful art experiences both in schools and at the Gallery.
Artists in the Schools brings practicing artists into classrooms across SD68 and SD69 to lead hands-on workshops in a variety of disciplines, including visual art, dance, music, theatre, and creative writing. These workshops introduce students to new artistic techniques while encouraging creativity, curiosity, and self-expression.
Gallery school tours invite students to explore our current exhibitions through a guided interactive tour, followed by a hands-on art activity inspired by the exhibition. With four exhibitions each year featuring a range of themes, artists and materials, every visit offers a new experience, so classes are encouraged to return throughout the year!
French tours are available upon request and subject to staff availability.

We accept bookings throughout the school year, a minimum of two weeks in advance. Once you fill out an online booking form a booking confirmation will be emailed to you within one week of your request being received.

Are you an artist looking to offer students a workshop?
Cancellations – we require one week’s written notice to cancel a school Program at no charge. An administration fee of $20 will be charged if insufficient notice is given.
Gallery, Museum & Library Visit
Share a bus and bring two classes downtown—one group tours the Gallery tour the other can visit Nanaimo Museum. Both groups can meet at the Vancouver Island Regional Library’s Nanaimo Harbourfront branch for lunch and storytime, and then switch in the afternoon for your Gallery or Museum visit! This option can help you make the most of your class excursions budget.
Gallery and Museum visits are each 1.5 hours in length, and available Tuesday through Friday. To book please contact Nanaimo Art Gallery and the Nanaimo Museum with your preferred time and date.
