The Nanaimo Art Gallery has two School Programs, one onsite and one in your classroom!

Come to the Gallery for the School Tour & Activity, enjoy an interactive tour of our current exhibition and a hands-on art activity. French language tours are available Wednesday – Friday upon request. Please click this link or select School Tour & Activity under Current Workshops below.

TheArtists in the Schools program brings professional artists into schools across SD68 and SD69 to teach techniques in various disciplines, including art, dance, music and theatre, and foster creativity in the classroom.

Homeschool Program

Join us on the second Thursday of each month for our homeschool program featuring engaging activities for grades K through Grade 12. Homeschoolers can engage with art through various activities at a gallery, including guided tours, art-making workshops, and independent exploration. These experiences can enhance art appreciation, critical thinking, and creativity. Parents are always welcome but required to stay and assist any children under 7 years of age. 1pm-2:30pm $10/student. Register on the events page.

Gallery, Museum & Library Visit

Share a bus and bring two classes downtown—one group tours the Gallery tour the other can visit Nanaimo Museum. Both groups can meet at the Vancouver Island Regional Library’s Nanaimo Harbourfront branch for lunch and storytime, and then switch in the afternoon for your Gallery or Museum visit! This option can help you make the most of your class excursions budget.
Gallery and Museum visits are each 1.5 hours in length, and available Tuesday through Friday. To book please contact Nanaimo Art Gallery and the Nanaimo Museum with your preferred time and date.
