Join us for two screenings of films by Jumana Manna, that trace connections between people and plants in conflict zones. The two distinct events are presented alongside the exhibition Biophilia, on view at Nanaimo Art Gallery. 

Wild Relatives is a poetic film that follows a transaction of seeds from The Svalbard Global Seed vault in Norway when an international agricultural research center was forced to relocate from Aleppo to the Bekaa Valley in Lebanon due to the Syrian Revolution turned war. Wild Relatives is on loop throughout Biophilia, see the film uninterrupted and accompanied by guest speakers at this special screening.

You can also catch the screening of Foragers on September 16th. Foragers is an experimental documentary which depicts the drama surrounding the practice of foraging for wild edible plants in Palestine/Israel with wry humor and a meditative pace. The film will be followed by a response from  Arzeena Hamir of Amara Farm.
